The day has come and gone

The Terri Fox run was a no go.

I really was not ready.

The rain didn't help my motivation. Did i mention it rained from Wednesday to Sat/Sun last week. On Sunday i woke up and felt like staying indoors. I didn't go to Mass ("Worship"). Got busy working on slopitch accounting books and lost track of time. I then looked at clock. Time was 11:00. The time the race was starting. Too late now. It didn't look like it rained at all on Sunday. but i don't know cause i didn't leave my apt. As you know, I was planning on biking but that meant having my cousin pick up my bike with her truck and leaving it overnight at her house. She lives near the racesite, so i could have biked the 5 minutes to the racesite Sunday morning.

I regret not even going to the race but i know it's an annual event for me. next year i will run 10K and i will be 125lbs...what size is that? 6 or 8

Also sounds like there is another walk for Cancer. It is Oct 1 and is the Hope walk for Cancer. 5K I might attend. As long as i continue on my exercise plan, i should feel alright to go. Now to continue my shin exercises. MammaBear also gave me a Kelloggs "Core Strength & Flexibility" pilates cd. That is tommorrow mornings goal.

Terri Fox bike ride ?~)

What you may be saying?

The Terri Fox Run is fast approaching Sept 17, 2006. I had a setback 2 weekends ago. We had our YearEnd slopitch ball tourny. I decided to play all 5 games. I did sit out some innies. The calves were so tight all weekend long. But silly me decided to play soccer the following Tuesday. Well the shin pain started Wednesday. Today they are feeling better as i've had 2 trips to the chiro where he indurred much pain on me. Did i tell you about the intense acupuncture we do? It is so painful. He uses a smaller needle and pokes my calves(front inside by the bone) 3 times in one spot to hit the right nerve. And when he does hit the right spot - youch. The pain is different in every spot. Sometime it travels other times it contracts the muscle, other times it may pinch. You may think 3 pinpokes i can do that but he continues the length of my calf. Then he moves onto the back of the calf right in the muscle. Hence why i need at least 2 treatments, if we did the back of the calf on both legs i would not be able to drive.

The only time available for my first appointment was 9:00 Thursday morning. My coworkers were quite concerned noticing that i couldn't walk/limping badly. After my treatments my muscles contract and tighen immediately. It wasn't till 12:00 that i could finally walk normally. My legs felt so good that i was tempted to play soccer that night. Hell like i would, knowing i would have to indur the acupuncture pain again. My second appointment was this Wednesday and suprising enought i missed my scheduled appointment. Funny how my mind let that happen hehe. But silly me make it for later that day at 3:30. We worked on my right calf this time and oh how i wished i got someone to drive me. The 20 min drive back to work was killer. I had to travel through construction too so that meant a lot of moving the foot back and forth between pedals. At 5:00 i didn't want to drive the 5 mins home, it was painful again.

Well to get back to the Terri Fox Run. I decided to bike ride it this year. I haven't really trained much on the bike at all this year either but biking does not hinder my shins and doesn't use the calves as much.

Wish me luck Next Sunday.

The Time has come

Only 9 weeks left till the run. Yesterday, i got on the bike for a short ride to the bank. After gettting air in the tires i decided it was too nice and fun onthe bike that i was extending the ride to a full blown exercise ride.

Today, i headed to the gym. Exercised upper body and abs. Ran on the treadmill for 1 km. It took 14:40 mins i was running one min walking one min. I am slowly adding running mins on. Want to ensure these shin splints stay away.

It's a game of patience

Well doctor i suck at this game. When to physio today. I really want to get back at soccer but he doesn't know if i'm ready yet. After him advising me again playing soccer tonight, i decided to go and test them out. We were playing in the new indoor full size soccer pitches. Thought the floor (recycled rubber material & other stuff) would actually have some give as opposed to the dirt ground.

Must say they felt okay when i was playing, except for the insoles and the raising of my heel. I got a blister on my right foot.

Friday is another story the shins are sore, well actually the whole body is sore. I haven't done this much activity in a long time.

I did enjoy the soccer game last night, i am out of shape. But i learnt my lesson, they aren't ready yet. I'm going to have to continue to play the game of patience longer and not be tempted to play soccer or ball.
Now, I'm going to relax the shins over the long weekend. Then continue with the 20 min run/walk every second day. In 4 weeks time i go see him again. If the running isn't aggrevating the shins then we will start with jumping and cutting exercises.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

I'm excited

Today, i went to the physio and my shins were good. We wanted to test them out so yesterday i went for a short run. No pain was involved during the run...except the pain in my lungs (from non-exercise). My next physio appt is for 2 weeks away...we are finally making progress. I still need to continue with my 4 exercises daily and i can run every second day but i still need to not push myself too much. The pain (if any) will determine how much i can run.

I ended up getting some shoes and insoles from a store in town. I think i need to return the shoes cause the heels are too loose and my heel seems to lift too much. Today, when i was wearing them again i could feel them rubbing and could tell blisters would be formed if i continue to wear them. The insoles i think might be too high for my arch i also feel light the heel is getting raised too much in the shoes. I wish i wouldve been more selective in the shoes, cause i remember the sign saying refunds for instore credit. Well they didn't have too much running shoes and the other two pairs the sales person selected for me to try on were bad, not a good fit.

Testing pics out. I added the other pics on my blog as small and want to see if a different template will not move the sidebar to the end of the page.

This is Tony Montana, my brothers puppy.
